The Institute of Plant Biology and Biotechnology (IPBB) is a research organizations in the field of plant biotechnology in Kazakhstan. The Institute is located in Almaty city and neighbouring the Kazakh National State University by al-Farabi and the Main Botanical Garden of Kazakhstan. The IPBB works in close collaboration with agricultural breeding stations, Botanical Gardens and National Parks across the country. Their mission is to improve crop breeding programmes based on new agrobiotechnologies, study of Kazakhstan's flora, including the preservation of rare endemic species, and protection of environment via phytoremidiation.〔(IPBB Website (in English) )〕 ==Activities== 1) research work: - Biotechnology research on the sustainability of agricultural plants to abiotic stress factors (low and high ambient temperatures, low rainfall, soil salinity) - Biotechnology research on the sustainability of crops to pests and diseases - Biotechnology research to improve the quality of agricultural products - Develop effective Biotechnology microclonal reproduction and a high-quality planting material and methods of long-term conservation of genetic resources of economically important plants - Biotechnological work to protect and restore the environment; 2) industrial and economic activity: production and sales in domestic and foreign markets for agricultural products, forestry, health, environmental and industrial.
